The Dunhill opened in 1929 and is Charlottes only member of Historic Hotels of America and one of its first luxury hotels. Its singular architecture and powering presence added immeasurably to Charlottes skyline upon its completion. Fitting of the times the hotel was fashionably elegant with a lavishly appointed lobby and grand ballroom. The hotel thrived even through the Great Depression as a favorite choice of prominent business merchants who traveled extensively by rail. Today the Dunhill Hotel is one of Charlottes few remaining landmarks of that distinctive period. The Dunhill is located in downtown Charlottes financial district approximately six miles from the Douglas International Airport two miles from Mint Museum of Art and four miles from Charlotte Coliseum. The hotels dining option Monticello Restaurant serves international cuisine for breakfast lunch and dinner. The hotel also offers 24-hour room service laundry and dry cleaning butler and valet service babysitting evening turndown and four meeting rooms.The lobby and guestrooms share the elegance of 18th-century European furnishings with original works of art hand-sewn draperies and four-poster beds creating an ambiance reminiscent of famous hotels of the twenties and thirties.
